Vestaburg faced a tough test against Montabella, dropping both games of a doubleheader despite some bright spots at the plate. In Game 1, Montabella defeated Vestaburg 11-1, capitalizing on timely hitting along with walks and defensive miscues by the Wolverines. Jersie Miller went the distance in the circle, pitching all six innings while allowing just four hits and striking out eight. However, eight walks and a handful of errors proved costly, leading to the bulk of Montabella’s scoring. Offensively, Vestaburg struggled to find rhythm, with Kelsey Cole and Ella Beres accounting for the team’s only hits. Emma Myers and Beres were the only Wolverines to avoid striking out in the contest. Game 2 saw more offensive production from Vestaburg, but Montabella’s bats stayed hot in a 22-7 loss. The Wolverines came out strong, as Emma Myers and Kelsey Cole opened the game with hits. Kelsie Stowell followed with a bunt that led to a Montabella error, allowing two runs to score. Stowell later crossed the plate on a passed ball, and Ella Beres added a triple before scoring on an RBI groundout by Jaiden Anderson to give Vestaburg an early 4-0 lead. Montabella responded quickly, scoring five runs in the bottom of the first inning to take the lead. Vestaburg answered with a run in the second to tie the game at 5-5, but Montabella pulled away with an eight-run second inning and never looked back. The Mustangs added nine more runs later in the game to seal the win. Despite the loss, Vestaburg had several standout offensive performances. Emma Myers led the way, going 3-for-3 with a double. Ella Beres also had a strong showing, finishing 2-for-2 with two triples, while Terian DeVerney went 2-for-2 with a pair of singles. In the circle, Beres pitched three innings, striking out three and allowing just one walk. Vestaburg will look to build on the positive offensive momentum as they prepare for their next matchup.
