Vestaburg Splits With Rival Montabella

Game 1 Vestaburg Varsity Wolverines Earn Walk-Off Win Over Montabella By GameChanger Media It came down to the wire on Friday, as Vestaburg Varsity Wolverines grabbed the victory in walk-off fashion, 4-3, over Montabella. The game was tied at three in the bottom of the sixth when Lucas Bunton doubled, scoring one run. Colton Halgren struck out 12 batters on the day. The right-handed pitcher also allowed one hit and two runs over five innings while walking two. Montabella were the first to get on the board in the second when an error scored one run. A ground out by Mason Bogart extended the Montabella lead to 2-0 in the top of the third inning. Jansen Scholer singled to center field, which helped Vestaburg Varsity Wolverines tie the game at two in the bottom of the fifth. A single by Cooper Kieff gave Montabella the lead, 3-2, in the top of the sixth. Vestaburg Varsity Wolverines captured the lead, 4-3, in the bottom of the sixth after Brayden Clements singled, and Bunton doubled down the left field line, each scoring one run. Maddex Koutz earned the win for Vestaburg Varsity Wolverines. The pitcher allowed two hits and one run over one inning, striking out none and walking two. Bogart took the loss for Montabella. The starter went five and two-thirds innings, allowing four runs (three earned) on six hits, striking out 15 and walking five. Scholer drove the middle of the lineup, leading Vestaburg Varsity Wolverines with two runs batted in. The 3-hole hitter went 1-for-2 on the day. Gunner Harnack went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead Vestaburg Varsity Wolverines in hits. Kieff, Zaiden Myers, and Bogart each collected one hit for Montabella. Kieff went 1-for-3 at the plate and led the team with one run batted in. Game 2 Game Goes Down To The Wire As Vestaburg Varsity Wolverines Loses To Montabella On Final Play By GameChanger Media Vestaburg Varsity Wolverines fell to Montabella 10-9 on Friday on the final play of the game. Montabella were down 9-8 in the bottom of the sixth inning when Brady Kieff doubled, scoring two runs. Vestaburg Varsity Wolverines fell despite leading 8-2 in the third. Vestaburg Varsity Wolverines got on the board in the top of the first inning after Colton Halgren singled down the left field line, Carter Allbee doubled down the left field line, and Montabella committed an error, each scoring one run. Vestaburg Varsity Wolverines added two runs in the second after Lucas Bunton doubled to center field. Vestaburg Varsity Wolverines added three runs in the third. Montabella committed an error, making the score 8-2. Vestaburg Varsity Wolverines scored one run in the top of the fifth on a solo home run to left field by Halgren. Montabella captured the lead, 10-9, in the bottom of the sixth when Mason Bogart drew a walk, scoring one run, and Kieff doubled, scoring two runs. Austin Jensen earned the win for Montabella. The hurler gave up three hits and four runs (one earned) over four and two-thirds innings, striking out eight and walking three. Jansen Scholer led things off on the bump for Vestaburg Varsity Wolverines. The hurler allowed five hits and seven runs (six earned) over five innings, striking out nine and walking four. Ethan Greene stepped on the bump first for Montabella. The pitcher gave up three hits and five runs (four earned) over one and one-third innings, striking out three and walking three. Allbee and Halgren were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected two hits for Vestaburg Varsity Wolverines while hitting back-to-back. Halgren and Bunton each drove in two runs for Vestaburg Varsity Wolverines. Bunton paced Vestaburg Varsity Wolverines with two walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, amassing six walks for the game. Kieff provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led Montabella with four runs batted in. The infielder went 3-for-4 on the day. Montabella had patience at the plate, tallying eight walks for the game. Bogart and Jensen led the team with two bases on balls each. Jensen stole two bases.
