A Rollercoaster Week for Vestaburg Softball: From Errors to Excellence

Harrison recap Game 1 Harrison 20 Vestaburg 8 Vestaburg held a 3-2 lead after the first inning but a big 8 run 2nd inning by Harrison put them ahead. Vestaburg clawed back scoring two runs in each of the next two innings. However, another big inning in the top of the 6th was enough to give Harrison the lopsided victory. Vestaburg was led by Terian DeVerney's 3 singles, Emma Myers added a triple and a double, and Ella Beres also had 2 hits including a double. Jersie Miller pitched at 6 innings striking out 5. Game 2 Harrison 14 Vestaburg 10 Vestaburg started out the scoring with 2 runs in the first and 4 runs in the second. Harrison countered with a 7 run third inning. A single run in the fourth locked the game up at 7 a piece. Harrison would add 3 in the fifth and Vestaburg added 3 in the top of the sixth. With the game tied again at 10 Harrison came up with 4 runs in the bottom of the 6th inning and Vestaburg was unable to plate any runs in the top of the 7th giving Harrison the 14-10 win. Emma Myers and Ella Beres both collected extra base hits. Kelsey Cole, Jaiden Anderson, Kelsie Stowell, and Hayden Lott all had multiple hits and Vestaburg out hit Harrison fifteen to seven. Vestaburg's 8 errors and 7 walks aided Harrison as they were able to get the sweep. Ella Beres was the pitcher of record in game 2 throwing all 6 innings and only giving up 4 earned runs out of Harrison's total 14 runs. Lakeview Tournament recap Belding 21 Vestaburg 2 Belding started the game off with 2 runs and their pitching shut Vestaburg down in the first inning. Belding then added 14 runs in the second as they went all the way through their batting lineup twice in the inning. Vestaburg only manged 1 hit, a single by Kelsie Stowell. The errors continued to be a problem for the young Wolverines as they committed 8 more errors in the game. Vestaburg 12 Lakeview 10 Vestaburg was able to manage to get back in the win column after beating the host, Lakeview wildcats in their tournament. A back and forth game through the first 5 innings was blown open with a 4 run 6th inning by Vestaburg. Vestaburg then added 2 more in the 7th giving them a 12-9 lead going into the bottom of the 7th. Lakeview did answer back with 1 run to pull within 2 runs. Vestaburg senior Emma Myers recorded her 150th career hit in the 1st inning and didn't look back adding 3 more hits and going 4-5 in the game. Kelsie Stowell added 3 more hits and Myers and Stowell combined for 7 of Vestaburg's 10 hits. Jersie Miller pitched all 7 innings and struck out 10. On top of 150 career hits Emma Myers also has passed the 100 career walk total. When asked about reaching that milestone Emma answered "A few of those hits will always stand out to me like the homerun at Chip Hills and the walk off winning double at St. Charles. However, I'm just trying to get on base anyway possible to try to help my team score runs and win ball games."
